Another Covid Death

He came again
The reaper that is
How long has it been
Five months since
We dressed in black
To bury a coffin

These days death is proud
I watch him all the time
Clearing the streets
Smirking at the cries of
Those that did not manage to hide
From his breath

He is not a big man
The reaper that is
Quite the opposite really
He is love’s kiss and hope’s hug
He spreads in a warm touch

So we banned such affection
Through summer into winter
Trusting in the power of the syringe
To cripple his potent touch

But the deaths don’t stop
Hear the children mourn their mothers
Taken not in arms of war but arms of love
When we kissed them goodbye
